Amazing Soul-Funk masterpiece from the very early seventies, "Listen To Me" was produced by the legendary Curtis Mayfield (the one from "Freddy's Dead") and released as part of "The Baby Huey Story - The Living Legend" on Curtom (1971), Mayfield's label. Baby Huey & The Babysitters were more than well-known for their club performances during the sixties in the Chicago area, which is probably at the origin of the approach between Huey & Mayfield. Baby Huey's famous vocals "Try to get on up, now!" at the very beginning of "Listen To Me", and "Oooaaah-Hooaahaaah! / Kind of Funky!... Kind of Funky!" with the heavy weight drum breaks were all cleverly used by Double Dee & Steinski on the ‘Lesson 3’ (Tommy Boy, 1985), but also by Hip Hop acts such as Blade on "Forward", "Follow the Leader" by Eric B & Rakim and 'Public Enemy - Revolutionary Generation'. This is the first and original pressing of Baby Huey's album, repressed more than 20 years later. There is also an original 7 inch single of "Listen To Me".
