Listen free to Aloha Light Works Body Buzz, Broken Light and more. 7 tracks 28:41. Body Buzz, the first of seven songs on the record, is also the most tuneful. It serves as a nice bridge between the band's previous work and this new material. From there, Aloha goes into Broken Light, which sounds at first like older Aloha, with the drums up front and center. However, it slides down into the spacey wandering of the rest of Light Works. It is clear here that the rhythm is taking backstage to Cavallario's guitar and vocals. Aloha began as a moderately abstract post-rock outfit, but there has always been a distinct pop influence even in their most cerebral efforts. Light Works, which at seven songs is just over half-an-hour, is either a short album or a really long EP, brings the band's gentle indie pop side completely to the fore: gone are the extended instrumental musings, the jazzy vibraphone solos, and the overall sense of musical connection to the softer side of the Chicago school of post-rock.
