It features eleven electric blues songs that were recorded from March 1966 to June 1967, throughout five different sessions. Background Born Under a Bad Sign was the first album by Albert King for Stax Records and his second album overall. It is composed of singles released by King recorded between March 3, 1966 and June 9, 1967, with additional studio tracks. Providing accompaniment to Albert King, who sang and played lead guitar, were the Stax in-house recording session band, Booker T. and the MGs, featuring The Memphis Horns. Albert King recorded a lot in the early '60s, including some classic sides, but they never quite hit the mark. They never gained a large audience, nor did they really capture the ferocity of his single-string leads. Then he signed with Stax in 1966 and recorded a number of sessions with the house band, Booker T. the MG's, and everything just clicked. Born Under A Bad Sign was Albert King's first album released by Stax. It became King's signature song, with the classic lyrics, If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all. The song harkens back to blues of the '30s and '40s which had similar lyrical content. King was an American blues musician. Known for his size 6' 4, 250 pounds and custom-made, left-handed Gibson guitar, he died in 1992. Cream recorded this and released it on their 1968 album Wheels Of Fire.
