Albéniz: Iberia Turina: Danzas Fantásticas. Les deux suites Iberia et Suite espagnole nous font visiter la plupart des villes et régions d'Espagne dans un maelström étourdissant. Interprétation magique donc, sans oublier la remarquable prise de son. A écouter et réécouter tant est si belle cette musique. Il s'agit d'un excellente version de la suite Espagnole enregistrée par Alicia de Larrocha. La qualité de l'enregistrement est très bonne. I had been previously familiar with an older version of Iberia De Larrocha had recorded in the 1970s, also for DeccaLondon and I was honestly surprised to hear how this late 1980s digital recording actually outpaced the very strong earlier effort. This newer recording under review here gives in a bit more to Albenizs lush textures, while the older effort is interesting in how it emphasizes some of the bare writing in octaves to create a slightly more modernist or streamlined Albeniz. Iberia is a wonderful mixture of Spanish music with impressionist influences. It is probably one of the most dificult Spanish works, with Granados' Goyescas or Falla's Fantasía Baetica.
