Somehow, it remains a mystery to me why this record never got a release as a 12 inch in 1979/1980; be it the full 4:45 version or a special disco version of it, be it a promo-only release or an official 12 inch single. Ballads like "Chiquitita" and "I Have A Dream" exist on official 12 inch singles, but not this outstanding dance track (the fact Madonna used the hook of it for her single "Hung up" shows how good the original composition was).It could have been a big seller at the time, because "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (A Man After Midnight)" was not available on an album (it would appear later on a greatest hits package). So to say, a chance missed...

No seriously. I just came here to buy the 12" single, much to my chagrin, there ain't one. Seems like obvious dancefloor DJ fodder, but can't imagine it got played in clubs very much off a 45 or LP cut. And Europe got just about everything else on a 12" whether dance floor material or not ("Greatest Love of All"?) so I wonder what happened here somebody dropped the ball big time! Now I see why Madonna needed to do a remake, cause this is a crime against music! At least "Hung Up" got plenty of DJ plays cause that synth line needed to see the light of day, or dark of a club, as it were
